Kinnegad Juniors AFC soccer club was founded in 2005. A group of local people identified the need to provide another sporting facility for the young people of Kinnegad and cater primarily for boys and girls aged 6-19 years of age. We currently play our underage football in the Midland league for boys & girls from 10 to 18yrs and our U19 and senior team play in the CCFL. We started out in the Athlone League in 2005 with two teams-U12’s and U14’s. Some of these players currently play with our senior team. In total we currently have over 240 players signed to the club from our under aged academy with ages ranging from U6- U10 right through all our schoolboy/girl teams and seniors. We initially played our football in 2005 on the Old Athlone road behind the community hall. In 2009,we started work on our site on the Killucan Road and through fundraising and local sponsorships, we now have a full size top class senior pitch. Our home ground is called Lagan Park and we hope to eventually turn our dream of a state-of-the-art multipurpose sports and soccer complex in Kinnegad into a reality. The first phase of the development saw the construction of a sand basedfull size grass pitch and car parkarea, and the erection of temporary changing facilities. We recently completed the second phase of our site development. This consisted of a small sized training areapitch with temporary/mobile floodlighting, boundary netting and high quality changing rooms and toilets. We have previously applied for grant funding from the sports capital grant programmes in 2017 and received confirmation that the club have been awarded €66,500. The next vital part of our ambitious plans will be the installation of a nine a side astro training pitch which is crucial for our on-going development and survival. We aim to start work on this in 2018 and just have secured a large four year sponsorship deal of €40,000 with our main sponsor Lagan Cement. This is all part of our long term plan to make Kinnegad Juniors AFC one of the top soccer clubs for young people in the Midlands. |
